OSHAWA LEGIONAIRES 18U ARE CHAMPIONS! WIN COLUMBUS DAY CLASSIC IN LONG ISLAND, NY

(Long Island, NY) - BASEBALL HEAVEN 18U CHAMPIONS!!! The Oshawa Legionaires 18U Elite team is the Baseball Heaven Columbus Day Wood Bat Classic 18U Champions following a perfect play-off Monday. A long day of baseball with rain and remnants of Hurricane Nate blowing threw the complex. Then weather cleared enough for the semi's and final to be played. A semi-final extra inning 12-7 victory over the #2 seed BVSA Fury (Bobby Valentine Sports Academy) from Connecticut. While Ethan Duggan went 4 for 4 and drove in 4 to lead the Legionaires offense! Then a big 4-1 victory in the Championship final over the #1 seed B.A.S.E. ACADEMY from Boston Mass. Final out at 9:05pm tonight was made by C Mitchell Haywood throwing out a would be base stealer to end the game. WP in the final was Braden Babcock who tossed a complete game 5 hit gem, walking 1 and striking out 11. His second CG of the weekend. (27K's in 14 innings in his 2 starts) What a great game for the Legionaires! Offensively. Babcock, Lucas Gilbert (2 for 3) and Mitchell Haywood drove in a run each while Duggan drilled a ball off the LF wall for an easy stand up double and then later scored. Oshawa defensively was so good throughout the tourney and continued today. Timely hitting and impressive pitching all weekend was the story!! A complete team effort as Oshawa 18U Elite will bring the BASEBALL HEAVEN Columbus Day Classic CHAMPION hardware and big trophy back north of the border!

Game 4 Summary - BVSA Fury Uses Early Lead to take 7-3 victory over the Oshawa Legionaires 18U. Legionaires 18u watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 7-3 loss to BVSA Fury on Sunday. BVSA Fury (Bobby Valentine Sports Academy 18U) benefitted from a 4 run first inning and never looked back. The Legionaires would rally but it was too little too late. Hank Schwoerer earned the CG win for BVSA Fury from Connecticut. He allowed three hits and three runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking just one. Ethan Duggan took the loss for Legionaires 18u. He lasted two and a third innings, allowing three hits and seven runs while walking seven and striking out three. Ty Cymbalista, Lucas Gilbert, and Mitchell Haywood each collected one hit to lead Legionaires 18u. Legionaires 18u didn't commit a single error in the field. C Jakob Malloch had the most chances defensively with six. First loss of the tourney at Baseball Heaven in Long Island NY. So with an impressive 3-1 record the Legionaires finished tied for 2nd place overall in the 18U division and advance to the semi-finals on Monday at 2pm. Down to the Final 4 as the Legionaires 18U look to continue their impressive play south of the border.

Game 3 Summary - Oshawa Legionaires 18u Defeats Long Island Strong, 4-2 to improve to 3-0 in pool play and clinch play-off spot!

Legionaires 18u beat Long Island Strong (#2 ranked team in the Long Island Elite League) 4-2 on Sunday. Lucas Gilbert pitched a complete game gem for the Legionaires 18u picking up the W. He went six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out eight. Miguel Hernandez took the loss for Long Island Strong. He allowed four hits and four runs over three innings, striking out three. In the first inning, Legionaires 18u got their offense started when Braden Babcock singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Conner Allen then drove in what would become the GW runs with a line drive single to left to cap a 3 run opening inning against the LI Strong ace. Easton Baker, Connor Allen, Babcock, Gilbert, and Ty Cymbalista each collected one hit to lead Legionaires 18u. The Legionaires were sure-handed in the field again for the third straight game and didn't commit a single error. C Mitchell Haywood had the most chances in the field with nine while also throwing out a key base runner in the 5th inning to kill a Long Island rally. Legionaires 18u tore up the base paths, swiping 5 stolen bases in the game. Cymbalista 2, Baker 2 and Keiven Frost with one.

Long Island Strong didn't commit a single error in the field either in a very exciting and well played ball game at Baseball Heaven. The Legionaires are now 3-0 and have clinched a spot in the play-off round. Only two undefeated teams left. A great run so far for the EBLO's Oshawa Legionaires 18U team. Next up Game # 4 vs BVSA Fury who are (2-1).

Game 2 Summary - Babcock Shuts Out Long Island Patriots at Baseball Heaven and strikes out 16! Braden Babcock struck out 16 against the top ranked Long Island Patriots, throwing a complete game 3 hit shutout and leading the Legionaires 18u to a 5-0 victory on Saturday. Babcock allowed just three hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out 16 and walking just one. Delaney took the loss for Long Island Patriots although he pitched well. He was 84-85 on the radar gun. He eventually went five innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out five as the Legionaires hitters caught up to the big time fastball. Babcock went 2-for-2 at the plate with 2 doubles and an rbi while 2B Easton Baker drilled a big 2 run double down the line to put the game away. Ty Cymbalista lined an rbi single to left to get the Legionaires on the board. An rbi that would become the GW rbi. Speed was also a factor for Oshawa while leading 1-0 Lucas Gilbert laid down a perfect sac bunt that forced the Patriots to hurry and then threw high and wild to 1B and down the line. That play led to two Legionaires runs. Legionaires 18u was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. C Jakob Malloch was solid behind the plate in his return from injury. A big team win for the Legionaires as the move to 2-0 and have yet to give up a run with back to back shutouts! The Legionaires are back in action on Sunday at 2pm and 6pm at the Baseball Heaven Wood Bat Classic in Long Island NY. Note: Blue Jays GM Mark Shapiro was at the complex today. His son was playing for the Toronto Mets in the 16U Division.

Game 1 Summary - Allen Shuts Out Motus Academy 18U NY in Baseball Heaven Opener! Conner Allen had all the right stuff on Saturday for Legionaires 18u, allowing zero runs and besting Motus by a score of 3-0 to open the Columbus Day Wood Bat Classic at Baseball Heaven in Long Island NY. The pitching was strong on both sides. Allen struck out five, while Pane sat down eight. One bright spot for Motus was a single by Pane in the fourth inning. Allen was the winning pitcher for Legionaires 18u. He went seven innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out five. Pane took the loss for Motus. He surrendered three runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. The Legionaires offense was led by LF Matt Walker who drilled a solo HR to RF over the wall to put Oshawa up 1-0. Then in the 5th 1B Braden Babcock hit a long 2 run double to CF to make it a 3-0 game. C Mitchell Haywood also had two hits in three at bats. Legionaires 18u "D" was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Braden Babcock made the most plays with ten. Motus didn't commit a single error in the field. Toomey had the most chances in the field with seven. The Legionaires are now 1-0 and play next vs the Long Island Patriots 18U.
