Hamilton Cardinals Win Inaugural Midget Elite League Showcase Tournament

The Inaugural Midget Elite League Showcase Tournament was a huge success and the Hamilton Cardinals take home the bragging rights, beating Newmarket Hawks 13 - 9, in the finals.

In semi-final 1 (Etobicoke 16s vs Newmarket) an epic 9 inning game took place in which Newmarket had the lead 2-0 going into the bottom of the 6th and scored 3 runs to go up 3-2. In the top of the 7th, Newmarket scores 2 to go up by 1 and Etobicoke answers back in the bottom to send the game into extra innings. Newmarket scored to in the 9th to move to the finals.

In semi-final 2, Hamilton scored 3 runs in the third and didn’t look back winning 5-1 vs a strong Oshawa team.

In the finals, Hamilton scores 11 runs in the first inning, but Newmarket makes it a game clawing back with 9 runs over six innings, finally dropping the final to Hamilton 13-9.

From my take, just a tremendous weekend of baseball and a good pre-lim for what to expect at the Elims. The MEL showed this weekend how competitive a league we are. Keep up the great job men.

I want to thank Denny Berni and Garry Liddell for being great hosts at this tourney and sending in game info on a timely basis. Thanks also to Coach Q for making Keelesdale available on Friday night, which allowed for smooth schedule.

Looking forward to a great rest of the year.

Tournament Convenor,

Frank Fascia
